Vol. 389 No. 4

Written Answers. - Servicing National Debt.

28.

asked the Minister for Finance the present cost of servicing the national debt; and what this represents per household and/or head of population in the State.

The estimate included in this year's budget for servicing the national debt in 1989 is £2,244,289,000. Figures for household numbers or population in respect of 1989 are not available and, therefore, it is not possible to provide the other data requested in respect of 1989. However, the 1989 debt service cost expressed in terms of 1988 estimated total population is £634 per head and in terms of the 1988 estimate for the number of households in the country is £2,147 per household.
