Vol. 389 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Louth Garda Stations.

41.

asked the Minister for Finance, in view of the fact that there will be a substantial transfer of jobs from Garda Divisional Headquarters at Drogheda to Dundalk, County Louth, if this will result in the abolition of the plan to build the replacement barracks; if the site investigation has been completed; the result of any such investigation; if the project will proceed; if his attention has been drawn to the inadequate and degrading conditions of employment which the members of the Garda Síochána are obliged to accept on a continuing basis at the Drogheda barracks; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I can assure the Deputy that it is still proposed to replace the existing Garda station in Drogheda with a new building.

The site for the new station is of archaeological interest and arrangements are in hand for an archaeological investigation of the site following which detailed planning will be finalised.

I am aware of the unsatisfactory condition of the existing building but it is not possible to say, at this stage, when building works on the new station will commence.
