asked the Taoiseach the expenditure in his Department on information technology equipment, on the engagement of consultancy firms for information technology projects and on direct computer personnel staffing costs in each year from 1986 to 1988 inclusive, and the projected amount for 1989; and the extent to which the management grades in his own Department are involved in the development and use of information technology.

The expenditure involved in the Department of the Taoiseach on information technology equipment for the years 1986 to 1988 was as follows:

A total of £23,100 was paid for consultancy services: £4,455 in 1986 and £18,645 in 1987. There were no direct computer personnel staffing costs involved. Staff were provided from within existing resources in the Department. All grades including management grades, are involved in the development and use of information technology.
