Vol. 389 No. 4

Written Answers. - Shooting of Irish Persons in Gibraltar.

85.

asked the Minister for Justice whether prior to 6 March 1988, the Garda Síochána passed information relating to the whereabouts or to the departure from the State or otherwise of one or more persons (details supplied) to any other police force through the apparatus of the Trevi organisation or Interpol, or otherwise; and, if so, the extent to which the Garda Síochána were responsible for the surveillance of such one or more persons outside the State; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In relation to the particular case referred to in the question I do not propose to go beyond the statement made on the matter by the Taoiseach in response to a Private Notice Question on the subject on 8 March 1988. I am satisfied that it would not be in the public interest and that it would be contrary to the policy that has been maintained by successive Ministers for Justice to disclose details of the type requested in relation to particular Garda security operations.
