Vol. 389 No. 5

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 6 and 7. Private Members' Business shall be No. 20.

I wish to give notice of my intention to raise on the Adjournment the subject matter of my Private Notice Question regarding the serious situation in St. James's Hospital.

I will communicate with the Deputy.

Will the Minister for Education say at what stage is the legislation which she promised in regard to the Bill to amend the NIHE Acts for Limerick and Dublin?

I answered that yesterday.

I did not hear it.

It is at an advanced stage of preparation.

Will it be introduced before the summer recess?

We hope so because it is important for a number of students that it should be introduced.

May I raise on the Adjournment the subject matter of Question No. 14 addressed to the Minister for Finance on yesterday's Order Paper relative to the proposed arterial drainage scheme for the river Suir catchment area, County Tipperary?

I will communicate with the Deputy.

I wish to raise on the Adjournment the subject matter of Question No. 40 on yesterday's Order Paper and the unsatisfactory response thereto.

I will be in touch with the Deputy concerning that matter.

Will the Taoiseach allow time for a debate on what has surprisingly emerged this evening — it is not surprising to some of us but I presume it is to many people — that there has been a gross mismanagement of lottery funds——

That is clearly not a matter for the Order of Business and the Deputy knows that full well. The Deputy must desist forthwith.

Sports centres in Cork, Galway, Waterford and Athlone will not now be built——

The Deputy must find another way of raising that matter.

The Evening Herald quite clearly sets out the Government's approach.

Please, Deputy Shatter.

Will the Taoiseach make some effort to clarify the existing situation and whether it is his intention to make a statement to the House or to the nation generally as to whether he intends to have a general election?

That is not a matter for the Order of Business. I said so yesterday and earlier.

It may not unduly affect your future.

There is no need to personalise the matter. It is a matter of indifference to the Chair.

That remark was not intended to be personal. I withdraw it if the Chair takes offence. I feel that the Taoiseach——

The Deputy may not circumvent my ruling. This is not a matter for the Order of Business.

The Taoiseach may want to reply, as he does on occasions if the Chair will permit him.

On the Order of Business, I am only concerned with matters pertaining to legislation.

I am being very serious about this.

I ruled the matter out of order yesterday and I must be consistent. The matter is not in order.

If the Chair insists I have to accept his ruling.

I should like to ask the Minister for Finance, or the Taoiseach, whoever is in charge, when he will make available copies of the consultants reports to the planning and development committee of Dublin Corporation who are currently updating the development plan for Dublin but do not know the contents of those reports.

The Deputy will have to find another way or raising that matter.

That was not a bad way of doing so.

The reports have not been completed. They are being rewritten to comply with the National Development Plan.

With the permission of the Chair, I should like to raise on the Adjournment the loss of approximately 500 taxi drivers' jobs in Dublin by reason of the recent massive hike in premiums by the insurance companies, and the need for the Minister to intervene.

I will be in touch with the Deputy concerning the matter.
