Section 13 (1) of the Science and Technology Act, 1987, was designed to give the Minister for Industry and Commerce formal power to direct the agency in relation to significant policy measures. I do not consider that the suspension of the furniture testing service at Eolas, for which, I understand, there was very little demand, constitutes a significant policy measure.
