Vol. 389 No. 5

Written Answers. - Commissions on Insurance Policies.

44.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether insurance advisers are obliged to reveal the size of their commission to prospective policy buyers; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There is no statutory obligation on insurance advisers to reveal the size of their commission to prospective policy buyers. However, there is nothing to stop buyers asking insurance intermediaries or insurance companies about their commission levels.

I am considering the question of disclosure of commissions by insurance intermediaries in the context of the implementation of Part IV of the Insurance Act, 1989, dealing with the regulation of such intermediaries.
