Vol. 389 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dialysis Machine.

89.

asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the development whereby the dialysis machine called HELP manufactured by the Braun company in West Germany has provided excellent relief for those suffering with a heart condition from high cholesterol levels; if he will arrange for the services currently provided in the Mater Hospital, Dublin 7, by this equipment to be maintained after the trial period of a year by purchasing this equipment; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have not received any proposals from the Mater Hospital for the purchase of the equipment referred to.

I understand, however, that the hospital is considering an interim report on the effectiveness of the treatment and that a full report will be considered when the trial period ends in June 1989.
