Vol. 389 No. 5

Written Answers. - Teachers' PRSI Payments.

96.

asked the Minister for Education the reason PRSI payments at the A1 rate were deducted from some teachers from September 1987 to November 1988 when those teachers were subsequently sanctioned as permanent whole-time effective from September 1987; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the Department of Social Welfare have refused to refund the difference between the A1 and D1 contribution; and if she intends to remedy the situation in view of the High Court decision in the case of a person (details supplied).

In so far as teachers in secondary and community and comprehensive schools are concerned, I am not aware of any difficulty having arisen with the Department of Social Welfare regarding PRSI contributions. The salaries of vocational teachers are paid directly by the vocational education committees and the question of PRSI contributions is a matter for each committee. If the Deputy will supply me with precise particulars of the teachers to which he has referred, I will arrange for the matter to be investigated.
