Vol. 389 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Infrastructure at Fishery Harbours.

11.

asked the Minister for the Marine the proposals, if any, he has for infrastructural development at fishery harbours to enable the marine industry to meet the demands of the open market in 1992.

The Government's National Development Plan 1989-1993 envisages a total investment of £19 million over the period of the plan, towards the provision of adequate infrastructure at fishery harbours. If our expectations for Structural Funds are realised the projected investment this year would be £3 million and £4 million for each of the next four years. This year's harbour development programme includes major improvements at Dingle, Rossaveel and Killybegs. Infrastructural improvements at the other major fishery harbour centres and larger ports with significant fish landings are also being considered.

The Minister mentioned all the other works taking place around the country.

Is the Minister in a position to outline to the House, county by county, the precise developments taking place in the respective ports in the maritime counties and the amount of money being expended on each?

I was dealing with the macro aspect here. I would be pleased to go into the micro aspect if the Deputy wanted me to do so. For example, I could begin at Malin Head, if the Deputy wished, but possibly she wants further information. I could take the Deputy right around the coast if she wished, but I would not be able to give precise figures to, say, the nearest hundred.
