Vol. 389 No. 6

Written Answers. - Development of Dublin Port.

28.

asked the Minister for the Marine the Government's policy on the future development of Dublin port; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

While policy on the future development of Dublin Port, in the first instance is a matter for the Dublin Port and Docks Board the development of a ports policy is a matter for my Department.

The national development plan submitted recently to the European Community included proposals for the development of ports including Dublin. The plan envisaged that the development of Dublin port would be essential for the success of sea services to the west coast ports of the U.K. To achieve this, investment is envisaged in improved lift on/lift off, bulk and handling facilities at the port.
