Vol. 389 No. 7

Written Answers. - Fishing Ports Development.

125.

asked the Minister for the Marine the fishing ports which are scheduled for development and/or improvement during the period covered by The National Development Plan, 1989-1993; and the projected cost of same in (a) the west subregion and (b) the northwest subregion.

The fisheries harbours development programme is designed to provide adequate infrastructure at strategically located harbours around the coast. Under the plan, major development works will be undertaken at a number of harbours including Rossaveel, Kilmore Quay, Dingle, Killybegs, Dunmore East, Clogherhead and Burtonport.

In addition, improvements are planned at many smaller fishery harbours around the coast. A precise breakdown of costs will not be available until detailed engineering studies are completed. Investment of the order £2-3 million in each area is planned.
