The number of staff taken on in my Department on a contract or consultancy basis since 1 January 1987 is 34. Included in this total are the chairman and medical adviser of the Adoption Board, the chairman of the Commission on Health Funding, two civilian drivers, two personal assistants, 16 temporary clerical trainees, seven officers on temporary secondment from the health agencies and one on temporary secondment from the Department of Education.
