Vol. 389 No. 7

Written Answers. - Medical Defence Fees.

173.

asked the Minister for Health the proposals he has to alleviate the cost of medical defence fees from non-consultant hospital doctors, in view of the fact that this is purely an employment related expense.

A claim has been submitted by the Irish Medical Organisation on behalf of non-consultant hospital doctors employed by voluntary hospitals for the reimbursement of 90 per cent of their medical defence fees. The claim will be processed through the normal industrial relations machinery and, in the circumstances, I do not propose to comment further at this stage.
