asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding her Department's proposals for the provision of a co-educational post-primary school at Kilcock, County Kildare; the current estimated cost of the project; the extent of the accommodation involved; the anticipated time schedule for the provision of the facilities involved; the possible opening date of the school; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My Department have agreed to provide a single co-educational school at Kilcock. This will be jointly managed by the Christian Brothers and Presentation Sisters and will be developed by extending the Presentation school building. When completed, it will provide for 550 students.

The new accommodation of 2,698 metres will include: three general classrooms, two lecture rooms, one social studies room, one language laboratory, two science laboratories and preparation resource area, one demonstration room, one art/craft room and store, one senior metalwork room and store, one woodwork/building construction room and store, one mechanical drawing room, one dress design and materials room, one audio typing room, library and ancillary stores, P.E. hall, guidance suite, general purposes/dining area, music/drama area, kitchenette, administration and ancillary accommodation. The estimated cost of the project is £1.7 million, architectural planning of the project has reached working drawings, stage 4 of my Department's design team procedures. As soon as examination of that stage is completed I have approved of the advancement of the project to stage 5 bills of quantities. It is not yet possible to indicate a time schedule for the commencement of construction nor for a possible opening date of the new accommodation.
