asked the Minister for Energy the acreage and type of tree intended for planting during the five years covered by the National Development Plan 1989-1993 in (a) the west sub-region and (b) the north-west subregion; the cost of same; and if he will indicate the total amount to be invested in forestry in the west and north-west subregions over the same period.

The estimated regional distribution of planting and of the total expenditure of a structural nature set out in the national plan is as follows:

Of the expenditure shown about 80 per cent will be on planting. Both conifers and broadleaves will be used. The conifers planted will include, Sitka Spruce, Norway Spruce, Lodgepole Pine, Larch and Douglas Fir. The broadleaves planted will include, Oak, Ash, Beech, Birch and Rowan.
