Vol. 389 No. 7

Written Answers. - National Roads Authority/Operations.

35.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of meetings which have taken place since his announcement of the establishment on an interim basis of the National Roads Authority; the documents which have been prepared by the Authority; the steps he has taken to ensure that the necessary legislation will be prepared in order to provide a statutory basis for this body; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The day-to-day operation of the National Roads Authority, including the holding of meetings and the preparation of documents, is a matter for the Authority. I understand, however, that the Authority has met on 11 occasions and that sub-committees have been convened as required. The documents prepared by the Authority include a submission to my Department containing its views on the draft blueprint for road development and its recommendations as to the content of legislation to establish it on a statutory basis. I expect to have a draft general scheme of the Bill prepared within a month and I will bring a Bill before the House as soon as possible after that.
