Vol. 389 No. 7

Written Answers. - Irish Citizenship Application.

72.

asked the Minister for Justice the reason a person (details supplied) in County Cork who applied for Irish citizenship in August 1986 and is resident in Ireland since 1982 has not yet been notified of a decision on his application.

I refer to my reply to a Dáil Question on Wednesday, 30 November 1988 — Dáil Debates Volume 384 No. 9 column 2454 and 2455 — in which I indicated that it was necessary to make detailed inquiries in relation to the case referred to in the question to establish whether the applicant is entitled to post-nuptial citizenship.

There are complex legal issues involved in the case and I am not yet in a position to notify the applicant of my decision. When the inquiries have been completed I will notify the applicant of the position and advise the Deputy accordingly.
