Vol. 389 No. 7

Written Answers. - Invalid Car Parking Spaces.

74.

asked the Minister for Justice the position regarding invalid car parking spaces in urban areas; whether invalids are entitled to park in those spaces; and, if not, if he has any proposals to regularise the situation.

Bylaws and rules governing parking in urban areas provide for the exemption of disabled drivers from the provisions of disc parking, from time limits imposed on parking and from the obligation to pay meter parking fees, provided that the vehicle used by the disabled person is displaying a permit granted by the local authority.

The question of reserving certain portions of roadways for parking of particular classes of vehicles is at present being examined by the Garda Commissioner and the Department of the Environment.
