Vol. 389 No. 7

Written Answers. - Removal of Cattle.

88.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if his attention has been drawn to the fact that eight cows which were the property of a person (details supplied) in County Cavan were removed from his farm in 1986 to a factory in Ballyjamesduff without the permission of the owner or the original blue cards accompanying them; the grounds on which the duplicate blue cards or a permit were issued to the people who took the cattle; whether it is highly irregular to issue duplicate blue cards or a permit without firstly forfeiting the original blue cards; what happened the cattle when they were left in the meat factory in Ballyjamesduff; and if he has satisfied himself that they were slaughtered when on those premises or if they were moved elsewhere, having regard to the fact that the original blue cards were not accompanying them at the time.

I have been informed by the Director of ERAD that the animals in question which were slaughtered in February 1986 were accompanied by valid documentation and that the procedures followed by the district veterinary office in all aspects of this case were correct.
