Vol. 389 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Kildare Clubs Funding.

76.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the plans for the development of the Newbridge athletic track, County Kildare; if she has received an application for funds possibly from the proceeds of the national lottery, through Kildare County Council, to complete development; if she will favourably consider this application in the current year; if there are any funds other than from the proceeds of the national lottery available for such works; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My Department has received an application from Newbridge Athletic Club, County Kildare for funding towards the completion of their athletic track. It is not possible, however, to allocate a grant to the club as grants up to the limit of funds available have already been allocated under my Department's capital grants scheme for the provision of recreational facilities. There are no other funds at my Department's disposal to aid such developments.

77.

asked the Minister for Education if she has received a request from Coláiste Chiaráin, Leixlip, County Kildare, for the provision of a physical education hall; and, if so, her response to such a request.

My Department has received an application for the provision of a physical education hall at Coláiste Chiaráin. The second level capital allocation available at present is not sufficient to meet immediately all the demands made by school authorities for additional facilities. It is also not possible to indicate at this stage when my Department might be in a position to approve this provision.
