Vol. 390 No. 1

Written Answers. - Concessions to Deaf People.

65.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if it is proposed to grant any concessions to deaf persons who are at present paying a full television licence fee.

Persons over 66 in receipt of any social welfare pensions and persons under 66 who are in receipt of pensions in respect of incapacity are, provided they are living alone or with certain other categories of persons entitled to free electricity allowance and free TV licence. A deaf person who is in receipt of a qualifying payment could qualify under this scheme.

The extension of the free TV licence scheme to other deaf or disabled persons would have financial implications and would have to be considered in a budgetary context.
