asked the Minister for Finance under various tax receipts projections for 1989 if there is an increased level of buoyancy in tax receipts from the figures received to date; the total of these revised projections; and the total per tax group.
Written Answers. - Tax Receipts.
Detailed comments on the progress of tax receipts are made in quarterly statements. In my press statement which accompanied the end-March Exchequer returns, I commented on the trend in tax receipts as follows:
Tax revenue in the first three months performed very satisfactorily, with a year-on-year increase of 10.5 per cent. Receipts were good under all tax headings, with those from indirect taxes doing particularly well.
On the basis of trends to date I see no reason to change the assessment that performance is satisfactory. A detailed analysis will be given when the end-June Exchequer returns are published at the beginning of July. On the matter of revised annual tax projections, it is not the practice to issue such during the year.
