Vol. 390 No. 1

Written Answers. - Darndale (Dublin) Refurbishment Project.

103.

asked the Minister for the Environment, in relation to the Darndale refurbishment project, Dublin 5, the proposals he has for improved facilities for the residents on the estate, such as shopping facilities, a planned maintenance programme for the estate, the eradication of flooding in the malls of the estate and the cleaning of drains in the estate.

104.

asked the Minister for the Environment when phase two and phase three of the Darndale refurbishment project, Dublin 5, will commence; if he will make available the necessary moneys in order that phases two and three will be commenced immediately thus giving residents some hope that the whole estate will be refurbished in the near future; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 103 and 104 together.

The management, maintenance and improvement of their dwellings, including the planning and carrying out of works of the kind mentioned by the Deputy are matters for Dublin Corporation. An allocation of £4.4 million has been made to the Corporation under the remedial works scheme for spending by them this year on their priority refurbishment proposals, including this estate. The apportionment of the allocation is a matter for the local authority. A decision on the tender proposal for phase II will be notified to them shortly. Proposals for phase III, which were recently received, are being examined and a decision will be made in due course in the context of progress on phase II and the availability of finance.
