Vol. 390 No. 2

Written Answers. - Crèche Facilities in Colleges.

32.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the lack of crèche facilities within University College Galway, the Dublin Institute of Technology or any of the regional technical colleges; and, if so, whether finance will be made available to remedy this situation, which acts as a barrier to mothers who may wish to go to college.

The provision of crèche facilities in the universities is a matter for the authorities of the universities.

The position with regard to the Dublin Institute of Technology and the regional technical colleges is that statutory responsibility for their administration rests in the first instance, with the vocational education committee concerned. Any proposals involving capital or current expenditure would have to be considered in the light of current restrictions on personnel and financial resources.
