Vol. 390 No. 3

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 11 and 1.

It is also proposed that the proceedings on the Second Stage of No. 11 shall be brought to a conclusion not later than 5 p.m. today and the Minister for the Marine shall be called on to conclude the debate not later than 4.45 p.m.

May I now ask if the proposals for dealing with No. 11 are agreed? Agreed.

Could I ask the Taoiseach if there are any steps which he intends to take to get the process of tax harmonisation in the European Community under way and to prevent if from being nipped in the bud or stifled between the anti-European rantings of Mrs. Thatcher on the one hand and the pro-European bungling of——

It is not in order to raise that matter now.

This is a very important issue because it will have implications for years to come.

It doubtless is an important issue, and there are many other ways of raising the matter in the House other than on the Order of Business.

We have given the Government the arms to use in this area in the European Community.

It does not arise now.

On the Order of Business, when is it proposed to introduce a Revised Estimate for the Department of the Environment to give effect to the instruction that the Minister for the Environment has conveyed to Dublin Corporation to "detenant" certain complexes of flats in Sherriff Street?

Is this promised legislation?

It was promised this morning and it has a capital implication.

Clearly this is a matter that does not arise on the Order of Business.

Could I have your permission, Sir, since it affects the lives of a number of people who have the misfortune to be living in the wrong place, to raise the matter on the Adjournment?

I will be in touch with the Deputy concerning that aspect of the matter.
