Vol. 390 No. 3

Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Weapons (Controls) Bill, 1989: First Stage.

As notified to you, I wish to move item No. 6 on today's Order Paper.

I move: That leave be granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to prohibit the entry into the State of vessels or aircraft carrying nuclear, chemical or biological weapons.

Is the Bill opposed?

Question put and agreed to.

The Second Stage of the Bill will be taken in Private Members' time in accordance with Standing Orders.

As a representative of the area I ask permission to raise on the Adjournment the decision of the Government to demolish the Sheriff Street flats and rehouse the tenants outside their traditional parish in the North Wall.

I will communicate with the Deputy.

May I raise on the Adjournment the subject matter of Question No. 11 to the Minister for the Environment on Tuesday, 9 May, in regard to urban renewal?

I will be in touch with the Deputy concerning that matter.

Does the Taoiseach intend making any important statements to the Dáil within the next seven days?

The Deputy should put down a question on the matter.

A Cheann Comhairle, my statements are always important.

What interests us most is the Taoiseach's lack of a statement. I wish to raise on the Adjournment the question of the financing of the Butler Community Centre in St. John's Park, Waterford.

I will communicate with the Deputy.

On the Order of Business, could I ask the Taoiseach if he would inform the House when the report envisaged under the Extradition (Amendment) Act, 1987, will be presented?

This is not a matter for the Order of Business.

It is a statutory duty on the part of——

I am sorry Deputy Colley, I have ruled on that matter on other occasions. It is not in order now.

On 20 April last the Minister for Justice informed me that he was——

I am sorry Deputy Colley. I must insist that you resume your seat.

Could I ask the Minister to confirm that it will be presented to the House?

Please resume your seat.

Could I raise on the Adjournment the chaotic condition of the library services in Dublin consequent on the embargo on recruiting staff to the service, the withdrawal of necessary funds and the fact that since October last libraries have had to close on 255 occasions——

There is no need to elaborate, Deputy. I will communicate with you on the matter.

Thank you.

Is it proposed to have the legislation pertaining to the setting up of the national milk agency before the House before the summer recess? The legislation had been promised in reply to a parliamentary question.

Not this session, I am afraid.

Could I ask the Taoiseach when he proposes to make his next official visit to Áras an Uachtaráin.

I discharge my duty to visit the President when necessary in accordance with the Constitution.
