asked the Minister for Finance (a) the total surplus funds available to the Government from the national lottery from 1987 to 1989 inclusive; (b) the total value of grants awarded by the Government from the surplus from 1987 to 1989 inclusive and (c) the difference between (a) and (b) above in terms of credit balance or deficit, having regard to grant awards made but not paid or drawn down; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The total surplus funds available from the national lottery from 1987 to 1989 inclusive is forecast at £115.3 million.

The allocations made by the Government for the period 1987-1988 amounted to £72.234 million. The allocations for 1989 have not yet been finalised.

The difference between the two figures given above is £43.066 million.
