asked the Minister for Health if the infectious diseases maintenance allowance is extended to AIDS victims.

The purpose of the infectious diseases maintenance allowance is to provide an income for persons who are prevented from carrying out their ordinary occupation as a precaution against the spread of specified infectious diseases. AIDS is not a notifiable infectious disease under the Infectious Disease Regulations, 1981.
