Vol. 390 No. 6

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funds.

20.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will give a breakdown of grant payments and commitments to date from national lottery funds in each county.

The only scheme operated by my Department which is being funded out of national lottery receipts is that of grants to voluntary bodies in the social services area. Allocations are not made on a county basis. They depend on the number and nature of the applications received and are allotted following consultation with the relevant health boards.

Details of applications approved in respect of the 1988 and 1989 (to date) schemes are set out in the following tabular statement.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he has received an application from the Athy branch of the Irish Wheelchair Association, County Kildare, for grant aid from the proceeds of the national lottery for the extension and development of their facilities in Kildare; if he accepts the merit of the application having regard to the major voluntary work undertaken by the organisation; whether he will respond favourably to this application; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

An application for funding under the scheme of grants to voluntary social services organisations administered by my Department and funded from the national lottery has not been received from the organisation in question. Information on the scheme, together with an application form, has been sent to the organisation.
