asked the Minister for the Environment the proposals, if any, he has to update the legislation governing the lighting of fires in public places.

I assume the question relates to air pollution arising from such fires. Adequate legislative controls on such pollution are already provided for in the Local Government (Sanitary Services) Act, 1962, the Control of Atmospheric Pollution Regulations, 1970, and the Air Pollution Act, 1987.
