Vol. 390 No. 6

Written Answers. - Grant Aid to Voluntary Associations.

45.

asked the Minister for Education if she has received an application from the Athy branch of the Irish Wheelchair Association, County Kildare, for grant aid from the proceeds of the national lottery for the extension and development of their facilities in Kildare; if she accepts the merit of the application, having regard to the major voluntary work undertaken by the organisation; whether she will favourably respond to this application; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

46.

asked the Minister for Education if she has received an application for grant aid from the proceeds of the national lottery from the Kildare Association for Spina Bifida; whether she will give favourable consideration to this application, having regard to the valuable voluntary work undertaken by the organisation; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 45 and 46 together.

The capital grant scheme operated by my Department is restricted to the provision of recreational facilities by voluntary community organisations.

The provision of funds to the organisations referred to by the Deputy would not be eligible for consideration under this scheme. In any event, no formal applications under my Department's capital grant scheme for the provision of recreational facilities have been received from these organisations.
