Appointment of Members of Government and Minister of State.

I understand the Taoiseach wishes to make an announcement for the information of the House.

I beg leave to announce, for the information of the Dáil,

(1) that, having informed the President that Dáil Éireann had approved my nomination of Deputies to be members of the Government, the President, on 12 July 1989 appointed them accordingly;

(2) that, on the same date I nominated Deputy Brian Lenihan to be the Tánaiste;

(3) that, on the same date I assigned the Department of the Gaeltacht to myself and the other Departments of State to the other members of the Government as follows:

Department of Foreign Affairs

Gerard Collins

Department of Finance

Albert Reynolds

Department of the Marine

John P. Wilson

Department of Agriculture and Food

Michael O'Kennedy

Department of Industry and Commerce

Bertie Ahern

Department of Energy

Bobby Molloy

Department of Social Welfare

Department of Justice and Department of Communications

Department of the Environment

Séamus Brennan;

(4) that, on 12 July 1989 the President appointed John L. Murray, Senior Counsel, as Attorney General; and

(5) that on the same date the Government appointed Deputy Vincent Brady to be Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach with special responsibility as Government Chief Whip and Minister of State at the Department of Defence.
