Vol. 391 No. 7

Written Answers. - Shankill Garda Station.

60.

asked the Minister for Justice when a new Garda station at Shankill, County Dublin will be completed and ready for use; the facilities which are being provided there; the police services which will be provided from the station; the geographical area it will cover; and if the station's responsibilities will be widened at some stage in the future.

The construction work on the new Garda station in Dorneycourt, Shankill, is due to be completed in late September/early October 1989 and, following the fitting out of the premises, the new station is expected to be operational by the end of the year. It will be a fine example of the standard of accommodation now being provided for the gardaí and has been purpose-built to meet their requirements. It will contain all the facilities necessary in a modern Garda station. In addition to the public office and general office accommodation, the new station will have modern communications facilities, dining and recreational areas, showers, a locker room, briefing and conference facilities and a modern cell block.

As my predecessor indicated in reply to Question No.8 on 24 May 1989, the provision of the new Garda station in Shankill will not affect any other station in the vicinity and will not involve any change in Garda deployment in the South County Dublin area. The same range of police services that is provided at present from the station located in Shankill village will continue to be provided from the new station and no change is proposed in the existing subdistrict boundaries or in the Shankill station's responsibilities.
