Vol. 392 No. 2

Written Answers. - Secondary Fishery Harbours Development.

34.

asked the Minister for the Marine the plans, if any, he has to develop secondary fishing harbours, in particular at Clogherhead, County Louth; when work will commence on the latter; if this is still a priority; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Clogherhead is a significant fishing harbour which has been identified as one of the major secondary harbours for consideration in the context of the National Development Plan for EC Structural Funding.

However, before a final harbour design and comprehensive development proposal can be drawn up for the port, it is necessary to compile information on the existing harbour structure, the nature of the surrounding sea-bed and the effects of wave action. I am making provision in 1989-90 for investigative work at Clogherhead.

When the results of these investigations are available I shall decide on appropriate action for Clogherhead.
