asked the Minister for Defence the moneys from the proceeds of the national lottery which have been made available to date to his Department; and the allocations which have been made to date by his Department.

Grants-in-Aid of £320,000 for the Irish Red Cross Society and £300,000 for Coiste An Asgard will be funded in 1989 from the national lottery provision in Vote 7 — Office of the Minister for Finance.

To date, £500,000 has been made available to my Department from this provision and payments totalling £254,384 have been made to the Irish Red Cross Society and £267,371 to Coiste An Asgard.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the moneys from the proceeds of the national lottery which have been made available to date to his Department; and the allocations which have been made to date by his Department.

As of 1 October 1989, a total of £1,660,000 had been made available from the national lottery to by Department, £800,000 for disaster relief in developing countries and £860,000 for cultural relations with other countries.

The funds for disaster relief have been allocated to Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Mozambique and Sudan through a number of relief organisations.

With regard to the funds made available in 1988 for the promotion of cultural relations with other countries, £319,000 was paid out in respect of grants in 1988 and the balance in 1989. With regard to the 1989 allocation of £460,000, £386,000 has been paid out in grants to date. Grants are made under this heading by the Minister for Foreign Affairs towards the promotion of Irish cultural and artistic events abroad.
