Vol. 392 No. 4

Written Answers. - Ireland's Neutrality

46.

asked the Minister for Defence his views on an estimate of the former Chief of Staff of the Army as outlined in a report (details supplied) which claimed that Ireland would need to spend £500 million a year in 1979 money value in order to adopt a posture of minimum deterrences to protect its neutrality.

The claim referred to was reported to have been made more than seven years ago and I do not propose to comment on it at this stage.
