Vol. 392 No. 7

Written Answers. - Amenities Grant Scheme.

122.

asked the Minister for the Environment whether it is intended to provide a further allocation to the amenities grant scheme for groups funded by the national lottery; the amount which was allocated to this fund for the financial years 1988 and 1989; the number of applications received for the years 1988 and 1989; the total estimated cost of the applications received for each of the years 1988 and 1989; whether it is intended that the amenities grant scheme would be funded every year; whether any application has been made to fund the scheme in the coming year; the amount of the allocation which is being sought; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to the replies of the Minister for Finance to Questions Nos. 26, 48 and 55 and to Questions Nos. 32, 33 and 43 of 24 October 1989. I would also refer him to my reply to Question No. 84 of 28 January 1988. The total number of amenity grant scheme applications received in 1988 and 1989 was approximately 3,400 and the total value of the grants sought was in the region of £103 million. Applications received in 1988 and 1989 have not been recorded separately. As regards the future funding of the scheme it would be inappropriate to anticipate any decisions at this stage.
