Vol. 392 No. 7

Written Answers. - National Lottery.

164.

asked the Minister for Education the names and addresses of groups in Counties Longford and Westmeath who were allocated funds from the national lottery from her Department; and the amounts which each group received for each of the years from 1987 to 1989 inclusive.

165.

asked the Minister for Education if she will give a list of all applicants for national lottery funds for Longford/Westmeath.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 164 and 165 together.

The provision of the information requested by the Deputy would involve an inordinate amount of time and I consider that the diversion of staff for this purpose from other work would not be warranted. Should the Deputy wish to inquire about a particular project I will endeavour to supply the information sought. However, I would refer the Deputy to the beneficiary compendium compiled by the National Lottery Company which gives details on a county basis of grant allocations.

166.

asked the Minister for Education whether it is intended to provide a further allocation to the capital grant scheme funded by the national lottery for the provision of recreational facilities administered by her Department; the amount which was allocated to this fund for the financial years 1988 and 1989; the number of applications received for the years 1988 and 1989; the total estimated cost of the applications received for each of the years 1988 and 1989; whether it is intended that this capital grant scheme would be funded every year; whether an application has been made to fund the scheme in the coming year; the amount of the allocation which is being sought; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The allocation for the recreational facilities scheme in 1989 is £2,311,000, which is the carryover of the unspent balance at 1 January 1989, of the £4 million allocated to the scheme in 1988.

The total number of applications received under the scheme in 1988 and 1989 is 920 and 304 with an approximate cost of £90 million and £26 million, respectively, in respect of proposed development works to be undertaken by the applicants.

Applications under the recreational facilities scheme will now fall to be considered under the new arrangements for the recreational facilities amenity grants scheme referred to by the Minister for Finance in his reply of 24 October 1989 to Questions Nos. 26, 48 and 55.
