Vol. 392 No. 7

Written Answers. - New Bord na gCapall.

88.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will outline the functions of the new Bord na gCapall; when it will be established; and the sectors of the industry which will be represented thereon.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to the Horse Breeding Advisory Committee, the appointment of which I announced on 6 November 1989.

The terms of reference of the committee will be to: advise in relation to policy and objectives for the non-thoroughbred horse industry; assist in the planning and co-ordination of the different elements of the national programme for the non-thoroughbred industry which I launched last year and advise and make recommendations particularly in relation to the breeding and production areas of the national programme.

The following sectors of the industry, together with representatives from my Department, the Department of Defence (Army Equitation School) and Teagasc will be represented on the committee: Association of Irish Riding Establishments; Connemara Pony Breeders Society; Equestrian Federation of Ireland; Irish Draught Horse Society; Irish Farmers Association; Registered Stallion Owners Society; Showjumping Association of Ireland.
