Vol. 392 No. 8

Written Answers. - Repeat Leaving Certificate.

115.

asked the Minister for Education her proposals with regard to limiting the number of times a student may repeat the leaving certificate; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The conditions under which pupils may return to school in the current school year to repeat the final year of the leaving certificate course, with a view to repeating the leaving certificate examination in June 1990, were notified to school authorities in August 1989. These conditions are unchanged from those that applied for the previous two years and they do not impose any limit on the number of times a student may repeat the leaving certificate examination. These matters are constantly kept under review within my Department.
