(Carlow-Kilkenny) asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the absence of a degree course in shorthand and typing and in view of the requirement of an honours degree qualification for employment in the regional technical colleges, she accepts that there is an anomaly whereby those fully qualified in shorthand and typing are deprived of their right to full employment recognition regarding permanency.

For posts in commerce or business studies with shorthand and typewriting the normal academic requirement at Lecturer I level is a first or second class honours degree in commerce or business studies plus approved qualifications in shorthand and typewriting. There are no plans at present to alter these arrangements.
