Vol. 392 No. 8

Written Answers. - Juvenile Liaison Officer Scheme.

74.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will take steps to improve the juvenile liaison officer scheme for the Coolock area; Dublin 5; and if such improvements include allocation of additional staff and facilities for weekend rostering or overtime.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the service provided by the three members assigned to juvenile liaison officer duties in Coolock Garda district is adequate to meet current needs. The members concerned are rostered for duty on a Monday to Friday basis in accordance with the general roster for juvenile liaison officers which was introduced by the Garda authorities in December 1987. Such officers perform duties on overtime when essential work cannot be carried our within their normal tours of duty. It is a matter for local Garda management to decide when there is a need for duty to be performed outside rostered hours.
