Vol. 392 No. 8

Written Answers. - Health Corporate Bodies Act, 1961.

104.

(Limerick East) asked the Minister for Health the number of boards or agencies set up under the Health Corporate Bodies Act, 1961, to which the carrying out of a function on behalf of health boards has been assigned; the name and function of each board or agency; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Although a number of bodies have been established under the Health (Corporate Bodies) Act, 1961, for the purpose of providing specific services in the health area, none currently in existence has been assigned the carrying out of functions on behalf of health boards.

The General Medical Services (Payments) Board whose function is to calculate and make payments on behalf of the health boards to medical practitioners and pharmacists providing services under sections 58 and 59 (1) of the Health Act, 1970, was established as a corporate body under secton 11 of the Health Act, 1970.
