Vol. 392 No. 8

Written Answers. - Discipline in National Schools.

111.

asked the Minister for Education, in view of reports that discipline is becoming an even greater problem in our national schools, if she has any proposals to improve the situation; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My Department's Circular 7/88, which was issued to schools in March 1988, amended rule 130 of the Rules for National Schools which deals with discipline and also set out guidelines on discipline for boards of management and teachers. The circular provided for a review of the operation of the amended rule. My Department are carrying out this review at present in consultation with the interested parties.
