asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the percentage of the headage grant money which has been paid to date to farmers in (a) Sligo and (b) Leitrim; and the percentage of the total which will be paid before Christmas.

The percentage of headage grant moneys paid to date in Counties Sligo and Leitrim under the 1988 ewe premium scheme and the 1989 sheep headage scheme and the percentages it is hoped to pay by Christmas are:

Payments under the various cattle schemes for 1989 have not yet commenced. It is hoped to commence payments later this month and to pay 20 per cent of calf premium payments, 20 per cent of special beef premium payments, 20 per cent of EC suckler cow payments, and 60 per cent of cattle and equines headage payments before Christmas.
