Vol. 393 No. 1

Written Answers. - Shankill Garda Station.

164.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will provide additional gardaí for the new Shankill Garda station, County Dublin in view of (a) the reduction in the number of gardaí in Shankill over the past couple of years, (b) the increase in the population of the area and (c) the growth in crime in the area.

165.

asked the Minister for Justice when the new Garda station at Dorneycourt, Shankill, County Dublin, will be ready for occupation; when the Shankill gardaí will be transferred to it; and the police services which will be based there.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 164 and 165 together. The detailed allocation of Garda manpower to individual stations is a matter for the Garda authorities who, when looking at any particular area, must have regard to overall resources and the totality of the demands on Garda services. The present Garda strength assigned to Shankill is 31 and it is intended to allocate an additional Garda there before the end of this month.

The gardaí have been in occupation of the new station at Shankill since 2 November. The normal Garda services previously provided from the old station are being provided from the new building.
