Vol. 393 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cork City Hospital Services.

226.

asked the Minister for Health, in view of the fact that there is available space and available facilities at St. Mary's Orthopaedic Hospital, Cork, if he will provide an accident and emergency unit there; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The organisation of acute hospital services in Southern Health Board institutions is a matter for the health board.

A detailed examination of the accident and emergency services in Cork was carried out earlier this year by officers of my Department, the health board and representatives of the Mercy and South Infirmary Victoria Hospitals. As a result of this examination the health board and my Department are satisfied that an adequate service for the population of Cork city and county can be provided by the existing hospitals.
