asked the Minister for Health if he will issue a directive to the health boards to increase the home help payment of 75p per hour, having regard to the fact that this is totally inadequate.

The weekly salary scale applicable to full time home helps with effect from 1 January 1989 is as follows: £146.48; £147.77; £149.00; £149.72; £150.44; £151.16; £151.85; £152.60; £153.33; £154.12; £154.88; £155.68; £156.44.

With regard to persons employed in the home help service on a part-time basis, the position is that the rate of remuneration varies throughout the country and relates to the particular circumstances involved.
