Vol. 393 No. 1

Written Answers. - Physical Education Teachers.

285.

asked the Minister for Education the number of primary schools which employ either qualified physical education teachers or teachers who have attended an in-service course in physical education as mentioned in paragraph 2.34 of the Programme for Action in Education.

As physical education forms part of the primary school curriculum all trainee teachers study this aspect of the curriculum during their training in the colleges of education.

The Department's programme of one-week in-service courses held each year in July includes courses on physical education. In-service training is one of the areas being examined by the Review Body on the Primary School Curriculum.
